Ronald P. Socciarelli, 1932-2012

Ronald P. Socciarelli,
1932-2012

Former Ohio University Director of Bands, and Professor Emeritus Ronald P. Socciarelli passed away late Thursday evening, February 2nd, 2012.  He served as the director of the Ohio University Marching 110 from 1973-1989, and retired from Ohio University in 1993.  During his tenure at Ohio University, Mr. Socciarelli began many of the traditions that are still celebrated by the Marching 110 to this day; including the now-annual Ohio Theatre peformance in Columbus.  Some of the bands' accomplishments under his direction include the first collegiate marching band performance at Carnegie Hall in 1976, the 1987 Constitution Bicentennial Parade in Philadelphia, and numerous professional football performances.

In addition to his marching band accolades, the Wind Symphony and School of Music achieved national recognition, including performances for the College Band Director's National Association and at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Affectionately known to many of his students as "Mr. S," he will be missed but his legacy will not be forgotten.

If you are interested in a donation in memory of Mr. Socciarelli, please consider contributing to the "Ronald P. Socciarelli Scholarship."

Bobcats Win Idaho Potato Bowl!

Tyler Tettleton's 1-yard run in the closing seconds gave the Ohio Bobcats its first-ever bowl victory in the 2011 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, Idaho.  77 members of the Marching 110 were there as the Bobcats came from behind, leading only the final 13 seconds, to win.

The members of the band enjoyed spending the days leading up to the game exploring the sights and scenes of Boise, including ice skating, bowling, go-kart racing, and walking the Oregon Trail.  The 77-piece band performed for the "Battle of the Bands" prior to kick off, and took to the blue turf to perform both pregame and halftime.

Congratulations to the 2011 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl Champion OHIO BOBCATS!
